Bariatric Pre-Surgical Assessments

WE PERFORM THE MOST BARIATRIC PRE-SURGICAL ASSESSMENTS IN CALIFORNIA

Picture

Once you have decided to go forward with your bariatric surgery, you will need to have a psychological assessment. An assessment is required by your surgeon and your insurance for anyone undergoing surgery for weight loss. It is designed to identify issues and behaviors that have contributed to your weight gain and why you have been unable to achieve your weight-loss goals. It helps ensure surgical success and improved outcomes with weight loss and achieving a successful long-term recovery.
The Convenience of Online Assessments
One of the key benefits to using telehealth psychological assessments for bariatric surgery clearance is convenience. Instead of having to visit a psychological practitioner in person, you can take the assessment from the privacy and comfort of your own home and still receive the same level of care.
What does a Bariatric Pre-Surgical
Mental Health Assessment include?
Our online psychological assessment is done with a certified and licensed mental health nurse practitioner. The assessment will include:
  • Completion of a structured questionnaire including emotional stability and psychological history
  • A review of your medical records to evaluate any existing medical or mental health issues that may interfere with your success in losing weight
  • An overview of your motivation to lose weight and an understanding of your weight loss surgery procedure and risks
Our nurse practitioners will discuss your eating habits, eating disorders, any substance use, and your general emotional state. We will offer some solutions that will help you create changes for a healthier lifestyle. It's important to note that we are not here to judge you. Our goal is to help our patients make the necessary changes for a good surgical outcome and long-term success.
What Happens Next?
Picture
Our report is sent to your bariatric surgical team so that they are fully informed of your assessment status. It's important to know that your assessment isn't about passing or failing a psychological test to receive bariatric surgery. Our nurse practitioners do not make the decision to proceed or delay the surgery. That is the decision of the surgeon, who will have all the information necessary to make that judgement.
After your assessment, our patients can proceed with long-term care at Clarity. Discuss these options with your Clarity provider or the scheduling team.
